Internet timeout every 30 min or so

Hi All,

i’m facing a strange issue.

our internet is dropping out every 20, 10 or 30 min. it’s not exact but sometimes even every 5 minutes.
the connection restores usually a minute later. but i’m not able to figure out the issue.

we have 5 vlans for separate systems. each has one subnet on it. most allow traversal between each other. there is a guest network which has internet access only which is also affected.

i’ve tried setting a longer arp cache. as well i’ve checked for stp loopbacks.

there is only one dhcp server on the network, but servers with static ip’s also face the same issues.

same issues occur on 1.1.3 vyos as well.

Are you able to ping the ISP gateway from your router when this happens? If not, what device(s) are between your router the ISP gateway?

i’m able to ping the router from my computer. im able to ping devices on the other networks. but i’m unable to ping anything outbound. i do continue to have an external ip assigned which is dynamic. it doesn’t change during the downtime.

i have not tried to ping the external ip from my computer.

did you have a look at the log ?
(“show log” in user mode)

i didn’t see anything discerning. it just shows the masquerading rules.

the last rule run was at 4:22, the internet just dropped out at 4:24

Try the ISP gateway, aka the IP for your default route.

Have you hooked up another device, like a laptop, directly to your CPE to verify if the problem persists?

just to update this post with the issue.

the problem had to do with improperly configured settings on the isp side.
