About; North Idaho - Tom Jones
- 1982 ; Computer networking communications ( SNA networking via RS-232 in an 8,000+ node network … SNA is no longer used ).
- 1992 ; Started the first ISP in North Idaho using Cisco and Telebit routers.
- 2000 and later ; ISP Network Operations Manager/Engineer. Now also working with Mikrotik CHR, PfSense, Arista, Sonic, some Cisco, VmWare, Proxmox, TrueNAS, Linux and very recently VyOS.
- I’m somewhat proficient with just about everything an ISP uses - except BGP.
- At this time, I’m trying to learn & understand VyOS BGP and route-maps so that I can AS-pre-pend some of my IPv4 & IPv6 network announcements. I want to make some of my VyOS IPv4 and VyOS IPv6 BGP routers less preferred so that I can better load-balance my BGP upstream incoming connections. ( With some recent help in these VyOS forums , I know can do some basic BGP prepending
)
- My network philosophy , I would rather build 12 different router/servers than build one router/server that does 12 things. It’s way easier to manage when one of the 12 functions goes crazy.
