DHCP Option 43 for Cisco Controller IP

Hey guys,

I’m working on a project for refreshing on-train wireless services, and we’re using VyOS as part of an initial PoC to provide vlan segmentation, firewalling, and guest/operational services to each train. We’ve run into an issue with automating the on-boarding (haha) of Cisco AP’s using DHCP option 43 on VyOS 1.5.

Based on some digging, we found this option -

set service dhcp-server shared-network-name MGMT-DHCP option vendor-option ubiquiti unifi-controller ‘x.x.x.x’

I’m aware we’re using what appears to be a Ubiquiti option identifier here, however the following post on Reddit suggests that irrespective of the Ubiquiti config naming, it’s actually sending Option43 when defined in the pool.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t appear to be the case in a DHCP offer.

Do we need to consider submitting a feature request for support of Cisco WLC via Option43?

Cheers
Andy
