Grub issue on Rolling VyoS 1.3

Hi All, I upgraded from VyOS 1.1.8 to 1.3 Rolling Rolling VyOS 1.3-rolling-202004050909. All is well and it booted just fine. I upgraded to VyOS 1.3 Rolling Release 20200627xxxx something I cannot remember right. All was well on that release too. I am typing this from memory. I launched VyOS 1.3 202007010117 and then my grub started doing weird things such as random typing in grub and etc while waiting to boot up. There is no keyboard hooked up just a monitor to watch the console to see why it wouldn’t boot up. I have a picture and a video showing what is occurring I can upload or place a link later.

Is this a bug or has anyone else experienced this?

Hi,

i try this and can’t reproduce this error. but what i see is the old grub version. Is your system boot to a normal state and this is “just” a display error? if yes you can try to reinstall the grub.

look at your disks your find on which is grub installed.

sudo dd bs=512 count=1 if=/dev/sdX 2>/dev/null | strings

output must look like this:

ZRr=
`|f
\|f1
GRUB
Geom
Hard Disk
Read
 Error

after this

sudo grub-install /dev/sdX

Sorry, just responding. I actually just wiped the router. And reloaded with VyOS 1.4 it’s a lab router. Thanks Rob.
