IETF is threatening to sell off most (but not all) of 127.0.0.0/8, which will not end well

If this landgrab happens, a whole lot of firewall scripts are going to need to be fixed, as the definition of localhost just got a lot smaller.

Should we be preemptively slimming down localhost definitions to 127/16 as the draft suggests?

All I can say is WTAF and since a draft RFC is supposed to receive comments, I hope cooler heads prevail and the IETF doesn’t break tens of thousands of systems for a few months’ worth of IPv4 addresses.
