Locked out after updating to VyOS 1.3

Hi all,

I updated from 1.27 to 1.3 I was locked out of the new updated VM!
Has anyone encountered this please and if yes what was the fix? I did find this article -
(Another "Server refused our key after upgrade to vyos 1.3.x" issue)

but I’m worried to delete the root user account! If anyone’s encountered this and found a fix I would greatly appreciate it if you could please share the solution.

Kind Regards
Z

Before upgrading, you should ensure that all users defined in VyOS configuration commands are not defined in the Linux system, as said in the thread you have spotted.
Before removing the root user in VyOS 1.2.7, create a new user, commit, save, and check login with the new user.

Once you are sure you can log in with new user, then feel free to delete root user and upgrade (if there are no other user conflicts)

Hi n.fort,

Thanks for the reply, I tried creating a new user, tested it and all was fine, but then I upgraded 1.27 toi 1.3x and the same again! I was unable to SSH back into the VM after upgrading with any of the accounts.
I also looked at deleting the root account but this doesn’t seem to exist in VyOS?

Do you or anyone have anything else I can try please, it’s really frutstrating all the work gone into cloning etc then updating only to be locked out!

Thanks
Z
