VyOS on EVE-NG booting issue

Hi all,

I am new here and have a question regarding VyOS and virtual environment. I downloaded latest VyOS version vyos-1.5-stream-2025-Q1-generic-amd64.iso. I booted up the ISO file in the node in EVE-NG and issued command “install image”. After installation is done, I reboot and VyOS starts booting and stuck in this stage.

It stays here for long time(really don’t know how long, I guess hours). If I leave it running and then come back next day so I see there is already “vyos login:” login prompt. After that I can login successfully.
I followed steps from even-ng website.

Does anybody have same issues? Why it stuck in this stage? It’s impossible to lab it as I have to wait to have vyos booted properly long time.

I use GNS3, but this might be similar to an issue I have at times. It will appear that the boot has stalled, but it’s actually the console session that has locked. Try closing the session, and reopening it.

This helped me. I wait once VyOS boot completely and then just open session. Issue is if oy want to see process of boot process. Is it more emulator bug/issue or VyOS issue? Because I have not experienced this on any Cisco images or other brand images.

Now I have other issue, and it is it shows different ethernet interfaces numbering on other nodes. But I will try to figure this out.

It’s a little bit of both. I don’t have the same issue with any other image I use across multiple vendors, but I also don’t have the issue when using a physical serial port with VyOS. So there’s something with the telnet pipe that is used to access the serial console that seems to cause the issue.
