Some time ago I was in slack VyOS ( vyos-community.slack.com), but one day it appeared to be not valid anymore. I tried to re-assign, there was a message to wait for approval, but nothing happen.
What happen with slack? Was it abandoned? If not, then why I can’t login anymore and re-join?
Soon, we will transition the Slack workspace to contributors, customers, and partners only, making it exclusive to these categories.
If you use personal email for access, we recommend updating your profiles so we can identify you correctly
You don’t need an @vyos email to be on Slack, they just need to be able to identify you. For “contributors”, the Jira homepage has a link to a form that should help with that:
To request your contributor slack account, use this form
A better option who doesnt do this exclusively nonsense is then to join vyos over at libera.chat which you can use whatever favorite IRC-client you got. If they want slack only for internal company stuff they could just remove that option all together from the resources page.
Unfortunately there is not much action in that channel for now but there are about 50 users who have joined it (looking at the userlist as of writing).
For whatever reason it feels like the team behind VyOS doesnt want an active community (or are just very bad at expressing it if they want)? Something have obviously changed to the worse since I joined the community summer of 2023. It was more welcoming and engaging back then…
Not sure how many of you guys use Matrix for chat, but I did just create a public room for VyOS at https://matrix.to/#/#vyos:matrix.org
Maybe one day VyOS will official adopt matrix so they can stop paying Slack all the and allow community participation again.
Why not Discord for community? While it is not perfect, most people use it. With IRC or matrix (I don’t even know what it is) there will limited number of people.
After slack changes (a long time ago) discord give better experience. Yeah ridiculous, but it is what it is.
Discord experience depend on people in channel. Discord itself is ok, unless you got your experience from channels with kids and teenagers playing games
