Persisting grub menu edits

I performed a fresh install of vyos-1.4-rolling-202112240317-amd64.iso on a new (to me) Wyse 3040.

I found on this system I need to delete the console= kernel options to actually see a console. It seems I can edit /etc/boot/grub.cfg manually to remove these options, but I assume the changes will be wiped (or at least not applied to future images) when I update. Is there a way to persist grub kernel command line changes across updates?

This seems to be the opposite problem in this post

Thanks!
